It seems like 95% of the SEO people I come across out there are doing practices that are 5 years out of date. This is because they are lazy and do not study the ever changing environment that is internet marketing.

The job isn’t hard, it just requires creativity…

So let me list to you the 4 key things in SEO that you now need to consider…

1) Local SEO
Many of the searches people do on Google now have localised listings. This can give a leg up to a website that isn’t actually trying to push for that keyword you searched, the website is just RELEVANT. So make sure you get your Google place listing sorted, other websites such as Yelp, encourage your visitors to review your product/service/website on these and get into the localised mix.

2) Social
Social Media and SEO used to be seperate. Not now. For the past few months the search engines have stated they use social signals in their ranking algorithms. So what does this mean? It means, get ALL your social media accounts up to scratch, promote them on your site, share content on them and use them as a new customer service tool. Reach out to your customers. Give them reasons to follow you. If you do this, I can guarantee they will use you more.

3) Content Content Content
Content is becoming the key attribute in internet marketing. It links everything. So the moral of the story is, get fresh, relevant, and interesting content added to your site. Share it. Encourage others to share it. If you do this right, people will talk about you on social media websites, they will link to you, they will basically send traffic your way for just what could be one simple awesome article.

4) Links
Many old fashioned SEO’s see links as a main part of SEO. It is and it isn’t. When I say it isn’t I mean, people put all their focus on going to get as many links as possible, from any sites possible. Not cool. What you need to do is, get your site listed on relevant sites and directories (hotfrog, dmoz, etc) and then focus your energy on giving people a reason to link to your site. This is where the content part links in. Make your site a great place for people to visit, even if it is just a bakery, why not put recipes on there. If you do this, people will come, link and share.

Today I heard about the movie that has been made about Jay Demerit, the current Vancouver Whitecaps player and ex college soccer player. At first I was like “Blah”, but then I started to think what this guys career has been like. He went from playing in college, to being an MLS dropout, to playing in pub leagues and parks in England to man marketing Wayne Rooney out of a World Cup game last year. Quite the story.

Well, it seems I get asked this question a lot from both offline and online friends, so I thought I’d give you a quick run through my current goings on with the companies I have stakes in. If any interest you, then please feel free to click through or contact me.

Project 1: CC Online Marketing

This is my personal freelance internet marketing thing I have going on. The long story short of it is, I help website’s gain more traffic.

Currently one of the projects I am working on for this is Solar and Green Solar Panels. If you are interested in receiving money from your electricity company rather than paying them, then give Solar and Green a call.

Project 2: Richard Lee MonaVie

I am working with Professional Footballer Richard Lee, in undertaking the marketing  for the UK distribution of the health juice, Mona Vie. The company will be selling the product but also looking for distributors to sell on our behalf.

Project 3: Everyone Needs a Mentor

This is a project in the early stages, but I shall be in charge of the marketing for this new venture. The website will house a large number of professionals from all markets, sectors, jobs, etc and will give the ability to contact and hire them to mentor you for a small price.

Project 4: CareMore Stairlifts

I am involved with a number of websites that sell stairlifts to the UK public. I help with the marketing of these old and new websites. They include Caremore 1, Caremore 2, Speedy Stairlifts, and Quotemestairlifts.

Project 5: Sports Recruiting USA

Me and a friend are starting a sports scholarship agency that specialises in soccer scholarships in the US. This is due to launch in December 2011.

Project 6: The Transmission

Basically I can’t give too much away, due to legal reasons, but here is the LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG story short of the whole situation.

Yesterday I found a profile that belong to a girl who looked awfully like the Ruby girl who supposedly passed away nearly 2 years ago…

I looked through her photos, which were open to the domain…

Yep thats her.

So anyway, this girl in the photos had been banded around that she had leukemia (she might have done, who knows), but then we were told that she had passed away.

The thing that makes me think that she was never sick or the situation was manipulated can be easily seen in the following pic;

So to conclude, over 3 years, MANY fake facebook profiles had been created, many twitter accounts have been created, many phone calls had taken place, many texts had been exchanged, merchandise had been sent, and MANY people had been conned.

The people who unfortunately fell for this sick act, donated money, gifts, songs, cried over the poor girl dying have now been left shell shocked.

There was a number of people involved with this, not just one. I aren’t saying names but we know of a few of the people who are involved, but we just don’t know how.

We don’t have a clue what the reasons are behind this whole 3 year episode. Maybe it was to make up a fake dying girl to scam money, maybe it was a bunch of bored teenagers, maybe it was much much much more dangerous than that. Maybe we will find out one day, maybe not.

UPDATE:

One of the persons involved has gone to the police claiming that she has had sim cards duplicated, phones stolen, etc. I was told this person has opened up 4 cases including theft, fraud, harrassment and infringement of privacy. So a police investigation is occurring for this person, which will ultimately decide it all.

As of right now there is no way for me to go to the police just by saying “Oh a lot of people can scammed into thinking a girl was dead”. No one seems to have any proof of the gifts/money they sent. So if you have any proof please send me it. My email is chris.cousins3 (at) gmail . com

Moral of the story: Be careful in the online world. It is a scary place full of complete and utter weirdos.

If there is one positive out of this situation, it created more awareness for leukemia.

I will release more information if and when I can. This is literally 5% of it.

In their next step to rule the world, Google have quietly released a new online only quarterly magazine aptly named ‘Think Quarterly’.

I just had a quick scan through and it looks pretty good to be honest but looks to be aimed more at business readers.

It will be good to see if it fits nicely on an iPad screen but it is very easy to read on a laptop browser.
